About the Tumor Boards:
We have established the first sustainable multidisciplinary tumor board in Botswana, which connects the Botswana oncology community with MGH/Harvard-based disease site experts. Utilizing an internet-based platform, we have fostered relationships not only between physicians in Botswana and at MGH/Harvard, but also among care providers within Botswana. In addition to providing a venue for education and constructive peer review, the conference provides a regular forum to discuss relevant health systems issues and for multidisciplinary discourse. The tumor board has covered a wide range of cases and topics selected by care providers of patients in Botswana. Case presentations by the treating physicians in Botswana are followed by an open discussion of challenging diagnostic, treatment, or heath system issues that impact the care of the patient.
