Research

With the support of the Paul M. Allen Family Foundation, BOTSOGO is taking a targeted approach to improving lymphoma care in Botswana. Over the next three years, BOTSOGO will document the full pathological spectrum of lymphomas in the country through the BHP national cancer registry, collaborate with the National Health Laboratory to subtype lymphomas, identify patients from the cancer registry and obtaining linked pathology specimens, and correlate histologic subtype with treatment received and patient outcomes. Based on this data, we will collaborate with our partners at the PMH, GPH, NRH, and the National Health Laboratory to implement routine prospective histologic subtyping of diagnostic specimens, adding an enhanced immunochemistry platform, bone marrow biopsy analysis, and flow cytometry to current technology. In the final phase of the project, we will work with these partner organizations to define acceptable protocols for treating relevant subtypes of lymphoma and will establish processes for reliable registry follow-up of patients.
